[Miss World 1984](/source/Miss_World_1984), [Astrid Carolina Herrera](/source/Astrid_Carolina_Herrera) of Venezuela, crowned [Hólmfríður Karlsdóttir](/source/H%C3%B3lmfr%C3%AD%C3%B0ur_Karlsd%C3%B3ttir) of Iceland as the new Miss World at the end of the event.[1][2] This edition marked the debut of Côte d'Ivoire, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Zaire. And the return of Uganda, which last competed in [1968](/source/Miss_World_1968), Luxembourg last competed in [1977](/source/Miss_World_1977), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines last competed (as Saint Vincent) in [1978](/source/Miss_World_1978) and Liberia last competed in [1983](/source/Miss_World_1983).
