**Miss World 1980**, the 30th anniversary of the [Miss World](/source/Miss_World) pageant, was held on 13 November 1980 at the [Royal Albert Hall](/source/Royal_Albert_Hall) in [London](/source/London), United Kingdom, televised for the first time by [Thames Television](/source/Thames_Television) for [ITV](/source/ITV_(TV_network)). The winner was [Gabriella Brum](/source/Gabriella_Brum) from [West Germany](/source/West_Germany). She was crowned by Miss World 1979, [Gina Swainson](/source/Gina_Swainson) of [Bermuda](/source/Bermuda). First runner-up was Kimberley Santos representing [Guam](/source/Guam), Patricia Barzyk from France finished second, while third place was awarded to Anat Zimmermann of Israel; and fourth was Kim Ashfield from the United Kingdom.

## Background

[Gabriella Brum](/source/Gabriella_Brum) resigned after 18 hours of being crowned Miss World,[1][2][3] and 14 days later, first runner-up, **Kimberley Santos** from Guam, was crowned by former [Miss World 1977](/source/Miss_World_1977), [Mary Stävin](/source/Mary_St%C3%A4vin) from Sweden.

### Returns, and withdrawals

This edition marked the return of Curaçao, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe; Zimbabwe last competed (as Rhodesia)[a] in [1965](/source/Miss_World_1965), Papua New Guinea last competed in [1977](/source/Miss_World_1977) and Curaçao last competed in [1978](/source/Miss_World_1978). Chile, El Salvador, French Polynesia, Iceland, Nigeria and Portugal, withdrew from the competition for unknown reasons.
