Fifty delegates vied for the crown won by [Eva Rueber-Staier](/source/Eva_Rueber-Staier) of Austria.[1][2] She was crowned by actor [Omar Sharif](/source/Omar_Sharif), not by Miss World 1968 winner [Penelope Plummer](/source/Penelope_Plummer) of Australia. ## Debuts, returns, and, withdrawals This edition marked the debut of Seychelles, and the return of Paraguay, which last competed in [1959](/source/Miss_World_1959), and Czechoslovakia, Gambia, Iceland and Lebanon, who last competed in [1967](/source/Miss_World_1967).
