**Miss Vietnam** ([Vietnamese](/source/Vietnamese_language): *Hoa hậu Việt Nam*) is the oldest and most prestigious [national beauty contest](/source/Beauty_pageant#National_and_international_pageants) in [Vietnam](/source/Vietnam), that has been held biennially since 1988.[1] The contest is organized by *[Tiền Phong](/source/Ti%E1%BB%81n_Phong_(newspaper)) –* a mouthpiece by Central Committee of the [Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union](/source/Ho_Chi_Minh_Communist_Youth_Union), the [youth wing](/source/Youth_wing) of the [Communist Party of Vietnam](/source/Communist_Party_of_Vietnam), the country's only [political organization](/source/Political_organisation).

The contest is held every two years, with the main goal of the contest being to seek and honor the comprehensive beauty of Vietnamese women, including: [beauty](/source/Beauty), intelligence, [culture](/source/Culture) and kindness. The contest is not only a beauty contest but also a place to spread good values, inspire and contribute positively to the community.

The current [Miss Vietnam](/source/Miss_Vietnam_2024) titleholder is [Hà Trúc Linh](/source/H%C3%A0_Tr%C3%BAc_Linh) from [Phú Yên province](/source/Ph%C3%BA_Y%C3%AAn_province) (now [Đắk Lắk province](/source/%C4%90%E1%BA%AFk_L%E1%BA%AFk_province)), who was crowned on June 27, 2025 in [Huế](/source/Hu%E1%BA%BF_(provincial_city)).

## Formation system

### History

Miss Vietnam is the biggest [beauty pageant](/source/Beauty_pageant) and the first nationwide beauty contest after the [reunification of Vietnam](/source/Reunification_Day). Before that, there was also a [South Vietnamese](/source/Republic_of_Vietnam) [Saigon](/source/Saigon)–based beauty contest named *Cuộc thi tìm kiếm người đẹp tại Sài Gòn*[a]. In 1955, [Công Thị Nghĩa](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=C%C3%B4ng_Th%E1%BB%8B_Ngh%C4%A9a&action=edit&redlink=1) became the first titleholder of the contest as well as the first national beauty pageant titleholder in Vietnamese history.[2] In 1965, the title was held with the coronation of [Thái Kim Hương](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Th%C3%A1i_Kim_H%C6%B0%C6%A1ng&action=edit&redlink=1).[3]

The after-unification contest Miss Vietnam was initiated and organized by *[Tiền Phong](/source/Ti%E1%BB%81n_Phong_(newspaper))* *–* a daily newspaper published by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the youth wing of the [Communist Party of Vietnam](/source/Communist_Party_of_Vietnam). Initially the contest was called "Miss National *Tiền Phong* Newspaper", starting from 1988 and is held every two years, the contest was officially renamed as "Miss Vietnam" in 2002. The first person to hold the title is [Bùi Bích Phương](/source/B%C3%B9i_B%C3%ADch_Ph%C6%B0%C6%A1ng).[4] The pageant was created with the purpose of finding women with good morals, knowledge and representing the image of Vietnamese women.[5]

During the period from [1988](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Miss_Vietnam_1988&action=edit&redlink=1) to [2000](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Miss_Vietnam_2000&action=edit&redlink=1), beauty queens did not participate in international beauty contests.[6] In [2002](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Miss_Vietnam_2002&action=edit&redlink=1), they were sent to participate in [Miss World](/source/Miss_World).[7] However, from [2008](/source/Miss_Vietnam_2008) to [2014](/source/Miss_Vietnam_2014), due to many issues surrounding the beauty queens, they could not attend [Miss World](/source/Miss_World).[8] From [2016](/source/Miss_Vietnam_2016) to [2020](/source/Miss_Vietnam_2020), they continued to participate in [Miss World](/source/Miss_World).[9] Starting from [2022](/source/Miss_Vietnam_2022), Miss Vietnam will attend [Miss International](/source/Miss_International),[10] Miss Vietnam 2022 [Huỳnh Thị Thanh Thủy](/source/Hu%E1%BB%B3nh_Th%E1%BB%8B_Thanh_Th%E1%BB%A7y) represented the country at [Miss International 2024](/source/Miss_International_2024) and won the first title for Vietnam.

### Broadcast

The beauty pageant has been broadcast on [Vietnam Television](/source/Vietnam_Television) (VTV) since 1998. From 1998*–*2008 and 2012*–*present, the contest was broadcast live on [VTV1](/source/VTV1), [VTV2](/source/VTV2), [VTV3](/source/VTV3) and [VTV9](/source/VTV9). In 2010, the contest was broadcast by [Vietnam Digital Television](/source/VTC_Digital_Television) (VTC).[11] Since 2018, the contest has also been broadcast live on the [YouTube](/source/YouTube) channel of Miss Vietnam and the co-organizing company Sen Vàng.
