**Miriam Lexmann** (born 2 December 1972) is a Slovak politician who has been a [Member of the European Parliament](/source/Member_of_the_European_Parliament) since February 2020 and member of the [Christian Democratic Movement](/source/Christian_Democratic_Movement).

Lexmann is of [German](/source/Germany) descent. Her ancestors came to central [Slovakia](/source/Slovakia) in 1853.[1] Her great-uncle was Mikuláš Jozef Lexmann, a Dominican priest and superior of the [Dominican Order](/source/Dominican_Order), who died in a labour camp in 1950 as a result of [inhumane](/source/Inhumane) treatment.[2][3] His [beatification](/source/Beatification) process was opened in 2013.[4]

## Early life and education

Lexmann was born to Eugen Lexmann, a [meteorologist](/source/Meteorologist), and Marta Lexmann in [Bratislava](/source/Bratislava), [Slovakia](/source/Slovakia).[5][6] She is the oldest of four sisters.[7][2]

Lexmann attended high school at [Gymnasium Jura Hronca](/source/Gymnasium_Jur_Hronec) in Bratislava, where she studied in a class focused on [mathematics](/source/Mathematics), [physics](/source/Physics), and [programming](/source/Programmer).[8] She then studied at [Comenius University](/source/Comenius_University) in Bratislava from 1992 to 1999, where she obtained a master's degree in [philosophy](/source/Philosophy).[6]

Upon graduation from university, she worked for the political non-profit [International Republican Institute](/source/International_Republican_Institute) (IRI).[9] She is dedicated to the impact of misinformation on public opinion.[10]

## Political career

Lexmann was one of the founders of the youth branch of the Slovak [Christian Democratic Movement](/source/Christian_Democratic_Movement) (KDH) and has been active member of KDH for nearly three decades. She currently serves as the party’s coordinator on foreign and security policy.[6]

During the [2019 European Parliament election in Slovakia](/source/2019_European_Parliament_election_in_Slovakia), Lexmann received 27,833 preferential votes and remained in second place, thus being elected as a member of the European Parliament.[11] Despite this, she would assume the mandate only after [Brexit](/source/Brexit).[12] Regarding the situation, Lexmann said: "I can't say I'm looking forward to Brexit. I see a higher interest in Brexit not happening."[13] She initially wanted to work at her previous workplace,[14] but started working in the faction of the [European People's Party](/source/European_People's_Party) after Brexit.[15] She became a full member of the [European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs](/source/European_Parliament_Committee_on_Foreign_Affairs) (AFET) and was included as a substitute in the [European Parliament Subcommittee on Security and Defence](/source/European_Parliament_Subcommittee_on_Security_and_Defence) (SEDE).[16] Lexmann took the oath on 16 February 2020.[17]

Lexmann is a founding member and EU Co-Chair of the [Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China](/source/Inter-Parliamentary_Alliance_on_China) (IPAC), which was launched in June 2020.[18]

In November 2023, Lexmann declared that she is considering candidacy in the [2024 Slovak presidential election](/source/2024_Slovak_presidential_election). [19]

Following the [2024 European elections](/source/2024_European_Parliament_election), Lexmann became a [quaestor](/source/Quaestor_(European_Parliament)) of the European Parliament, making her part of the Parliament's leadership under President [Roberta Metsola](/source/Roberta_Metsola).[20]

In November 2025, Lexmann stated[21] that once one of the two married individuals undergoes a legal gender change, the marriage should be considered as no longer valid, as the Slovak [Constitution](/source/Constitution) does not allow that.

## Personal life

Lexmann got engaged to [Christian Democratic Movement](/source/Christian_Democratic_Movement) [Milan Majerský](/source/Milan_Majersk%C3%BD) in August 2020.[22] Their wedding took place after the [ecclesiastical court](/source/Ecclesiastical_court) found that his first [marriage](/source/Marriage) was declared null and void.[23] They got married in the church of Our Lady of the Snow in Bratislava.[24]

Lexmann has served as a member of the Tunega, Púčik and Tesár Foundation (Slovak: *Nadácia Tunegu, Púčika a Tesára*) board of trustees since at least 2018,[25] actively participating in its programs, including panel discussions and commemorative events. The foundation is dedicated to promoting [democracy](/source/Democracy), [Christian values](/source/Christian_values), and the legacy of [European union](/source/European_Union) founding fathers such as [Robert Schuman](/source/Robert_Schuman) and [Konrad Adenauer](/source/Konrad_Adenauer) and its name commemorates the White Legion martyrs (Anton Tunega, Albert Púčik, and Eduard Tesár), who were executed by the [communist regime](/source/History_of_Czechoslovakia_(1948%E2%80%931989)) in 1951 for their [anti-communist](/source/Anti-communism) activities.[26] The founder and chairman of the foundation’s board of trustees is [Ján Figeľ](/source/J%C3%A1n_Fige%C4%BE).[27]

In March 2021, Lexmann was placed on China's sanctions list along with ten European politicians and academics,[28] thus banned from doing business in China. She stated: "What I'm worried about is that the sanctions could directly hurt people from China that I'm in contact with".[29] The sanctions were lifted by China in April 2025 following negotiations with [European Parliament](/source/European_Parliament) President [Roberta Metsola](/source/Roberta_Metsola).[30]

Lexmann has been actively involved with *Fórum života* (Life Forum), a Slovak [non-governmental organization](/source/Non-governmental_organization) advocating [pro-life](/source/Anti-abortion_movements) policies, including opposition to [abortion](/source/Abortion) and [euthanasia](/source/Euthanasia), as well as support for families in crisis. She has been a long-term member and supporter of the organization, and in February 2020 she was elected to its board.[31][6][32][33] Under her patronage, the *Koncert za život* (lit. 'Concert for Life'), organized by *Fórum Života* (lit. 'Life Forum'), took place in December 2025 in [Prešov](/source/Pre%C5%A1ov).[34]

Serving as Chairwoman of Relief & Reconciliation International [AISBL](/source/AISBL), a [Belgian](/source/Belgium) non-profit founded in 2013, Lexmann oversees initiatives that combine peacebuilding with humanitarian aid.[33][35] The organization primarily supports communities in Syria and Lebanon through education, reconciliation programs, and relief efforts, drawing inspiration from the [Jesuit](/source/Jesuits) tradition, particularly the work of co-founder Father [Paolo Dall’Oglio](/source/Paolo_Dall'Oglio).[36]

Lexmann also serves on the Advisory Board of the Kurdistan National Prayer Breakfast, an initiative dedicated to promoting unity and spiritual reflection in the region, alongside notable figures such as [Eduard Heger](/source/Eduard_Heger), [Katalin Novák](/source/Katalin_Nov%C3%A1k), [Alojz Peterle](/source/Lojze_Peterle), [Nikolaus von Liechtenstein](/source/Prince_Nikolaus_of_Liechtenstein), [Tristan Azbej](/source/Tristan_Azbej), and [Peter Östman](/source/Peter_%C3%96stman).[37] This organization is connected to [The Fellowship](/source/The_Fellowship_(Christian_organization)) network.[38][39]

## Controversy

### Association with CitizenGO

In 2023, Lexmann received an award from [CitizenGO](/source/CitizenGO). The award was presented as part of CitizenGO's 10th anniversary celebrations, recognizing select individuals worldwide for their contributions to protecting shared values.[40] She also supported petitions organized by CitizenGO.[41][42][43]

CitizenGO is controversial organization due to financial links to Russian oligarch [Konstantin Malofeev](/source/Konstantin_Malofeev), with board member Alexey Komov facilitating a 2013 funding deal and promoting Kremlin views. Board member [Luca Volontè](/source/Luca_Volont%C3%A8), convicted of corruption in the [Azerbaijani Laundromat](/source/Azerbaijani_laundromat) scandal involving €2.39 million in bribes with Russian ties, allegedly funneled funds to CitizenGO via his foundation. The group is also criticized for supporting Spain's [Vox](/source/Vox_(political_party)) party and participating in the Russia-influenced [Agenda Europe](/source/Agenda_Europe) network against progressive rights.[44][45][46] A court in [Spain](/source/Spain) confirmed the accuracy of information regarding *HazteOír*’s ties to the secret organization *[El Yunque](/source/El_Yunque_(organization))*, with which it is historically and organizationally closely connected.[47] The [Spanish Episcopal Conference](/source/Spanish_Episcopal_Conference) has distanced itself from *HazteOír*.[48][49][50]

### Fórum života and Agenda Europe

*Fórum Života* (lit. 'Life Forum'), in which Lexmann is actively involved and where she served as a board member, has been identified as a key participant in [Agenda Europe](/source/Agenda_Europe).[51][52][53] Agenda Europe, a secretive conservative network opposing abortion, [LGBTQ+ rights](/source/LGBTQ_rights_by_country_or_territory), and [gender equality](/source/Gender_equality), has been embroiled in controversies over its alleged ties to [Russian influence](/source/Russian_influence_operations), including through Alexey Komov, who facilitates funding from sanctioned oligarch [Konstantin Malofeev](/source/Konstantin_Malofeev), a major funder of [Russian separatist](/source/Russian_separatist_forces_in_Ukraine) groups in [Crimea](/source/Crimea) in 2014 and the [Donetsk People’s Republic](/source/Donetsk_People's_Republic).[54][55][56] Another example of her connections to Agenda Europe is through her [KDH](/source/Christian_Democratic_Movement) colleague [Ján Figeľ](/source/J%C3%A1n_Fige%C4%BE), the founder[27] of the Tunega, Púčik and Tesár Foundation, where Lexmann served for many years as a member of the board of trustees. Figeľ has been identified as a key figure within Agenda Europe.[57]

### ADF International

Lexmann collaborated also with ADF International (the global arm of [Alliance Defending Freedom](/source/Alliance_Defending_Freedom)). Key examples include co-organizing a 2023 [European Parliament](/source/European_Parliament) conference on surrogacy and parenthood policies, where Lexmann hosted speakers such as ADF International's Adina Portaru.[58][59] Additionally, Lexmann hosted Slovak students at the European Parliament for meetings with ADF International representatives, alongside other conservative groups like FAFCE, indicating facilitated networking on shared policy issues.[60][61][62]

ADF has been criticized as an [anti-LGBTQ+](/source/Anti-LGBTQ_rhetoric) [hate group](/source/Hate_group) by organizations like the [Southern Poverty Law Center](/source/Southern_Poverty_Law_Center) for advocating policies that restrict LGBTQ+ rights, [reproductive freedoms](/source/Reproductive_rights), and [gender equality](/source/Gender_equality), including support for the recriminalization of [same-sex acts](/source/Homosexuality) and drafting [anti-trans](/source/Transphobia) legislation.[63] Through involvement in [Agenda Europe](/source/Agenda_Europe) (mentioned earlier), ADF was accused of lobbying to curb [sexual and reproductive rights](/source/Sexual_and_reproductive_health_and_rights) in the EU, importing US-style restrictions while using EU funds via affiliates.[57][46]

### Support for the 2025 constitutional amendments

Lexmann, as a member of [European Parliament](/source/European_Parliament), has actively supported and defended the recent controversial [constitutional](/source/Constitution) changes initiated and proposed by [government](/source/Government_of_Slovakia) of [Robert Fico](/source/Robert_Fico). Lexmann publicly communicated her positions through media and [social media](/source/Social_media).[64][65] Critics, including [Venice Commission](/source/Venice_Commission) and the [Amnesty International](/source/Amnesty_International), view Slovakia's constitutional amendments as draconian measures that would severely undermine [gender equality](/source/Gender_equality), [human rights](/source/Human_rights), and the rule of law by entrenching [discrimination](/source/Discrimination).[66][67][68]
