**Minuscule 899** (in the [Gregory-Aland](/source/Biblical_manuscript#Gregory-Aland) numbering)[1] is a [Greek](/source/Greek_language) [minuscule](/source/Lower_case) [manuscript](/source/Manuscript) of the [New Testament](/source/New_Testament), on parchment. [Palaeographically](/source/Palaeography) it has been assigned to the 11th century.

## Description

The codex contains the text of the [Gospels](/source/Gospels) on 208 parchment leaves (). It is written in one column of 25-26 lines per page.[2][3] The headpiece of Luke is missing, there is a [lacuna](/source/Lacuna_(manuscripts)) at John 16:5-17:8, and John 21:17-25 is supplemented in another hand.[4]

The text of the Gospels is divided according to the κεφαλαια (*chapters*), whose numbers are given at the margin, and their τιτλοι (*titles of chapters*) at the top of the pages. There is also a division according to the smaller [Ammonian Sections](/source/Ammonian_Sections) (in Mark 241 sections, the last section in 16:20), whose numbers are given at the margin, with references to the [Eusebian Canons](/source/Eusebian_Canons) (written below Ammonian Section numbers).[4]

It contains decorated [Eusebian canon tables](/source/Eusebian_Canons#The_Eusebian_Tables) and illustrations of the evangelists.[4]

It references the Jewish Gospel in a scholion at Matthew 12:40. It contains the [Jerusalem Colophon](/source/Jerusalem_Colophon) after each of the gospels.

## Text

The Greek text of the codex is representative of the [Byzantine text-type](/source/Byzantine_text-type), except in John. In the [Pericope de Adultera](/source/Pericope_de_Adultera), it does not contain the [Apollinarius scholion](/source/Apollinarius_scholion). According to the [Claremont Profile Method](/source/Claremont_Profile_Method), it is a core member of the [group Lambda](/source/Codex_Tischendorfianus_III).[5]

The Greek text of this codex is mixed. [Aland](/source/Kurt_Aland) did not place it in any [Category](/source/Categories_of_New_Testament_manuscripts).[6]

## History

The codex is dated by the [INTF](/source/INTF) to the 11th century.[2][3]

The codex was bought at Venice (along with [Minuscule 441](/source/Minuscule_441)) by [Johan Gabriel Sparwenfeld](/source/Johan_Gabriel_Sparwenfeld) in 1678.[4]

The manuscript was added to the list of New Testament manuscripts by [Gregory](/source/Caspar_Ren%C3%A9_Gregory) (899e).[4]

It is currently housed at the [University of Uppsala](/source/University_of_Uppsala) (Gr. 4) in [Uppsala](/source/Uppsala).[3]
