**Min Buri**[a] ([Thai](/source/Thai_language): แขวงมีนบุรี, pronounced [\[kʰwɛ̌ːŋ mīːn būrīː\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Thai)) is a *[khwaeng](/source/Khwaeng)* (subdistrict) of [Min Buri district](/source/Min_Buri_district), [Bangkok](/source/Bangkok), [Thailand](/source/Thailand).

## Toponymy

A suburban area at the eastern fringe of Bangkok, it was named by the royal government in 19th century as *Min Buri* literally "City of Fish", to go with its neighbouring town, *Thanyaburi* or "City of Grains". The latter is now a district in [Pathum Thani province](/source/Pathum_Thani_province), [Thanyaburi](/source/Thanyaburi_district).[3]

Min Buri is surrounded by other subdistricts (from the north clockwise): [Bang Chan](/source/Bang_Chan%2C_Bangkok), [Sai Kong Din](/source/Sai_Kong_Din) and [Sai Kong Din Tai](/source/Sai_Kong_Din_Tai) in [Khlong Sam Wa district](/source/Khlong_Sam_Wa_district), [Saen Saep](/source/Saen_Saep_subdistrict) in its district, [Khlong Sam Prawet](/source/Khlong_Sam_Prawet_subdistrict) and [Khlong Song Ton Nun](/source/Khlong_Song_Ton_Nun_subdistrict) in [Lat Krabang district](/source/Lat_Krabang_district), [Rat Phatthana](/source/Rat_Phatthana%2C_Bangkok) in [Saphan Sung district](/source/Saphan_Sung_district) and [Khan Na Yao](/source/Khan_Na_Yao_subdistrict) in [Khan Na Yao district](/source/Khan_Na_Yao_district).

As of December 2022, the area had a total population of 95,967 people.[2]
