**Milton Carruth** (March 23, 1899 – September 7, 1972) was an American film editor and, for a period in the 1930s, film director. Among the 129 films he edited are *[All Quiet on the Western Front](/source/All_Quiet_on_the_Western_Front_(1930_film))* (directed by [Lewis Milestone](/source/Lewis_Milestone), 1930, silent version), *[Shadow of a Doubt](/source/Shadow_of_a_Doubt)* (directed by [Alfred Hitchcock](/source/Alfred_Hitchcock), 1943), *[Pillow Talk](/source/Pillow_Talk_(film))* (directed by [Michael Gordon](/source/Michael_Gordon_(film_director)), 1959), and *[Imitation of Life](/source/Imitation_of_Life_(1959_film))* (directed by [Douglas Sirk](/source/Douglas_Sirk), 1959). His career as an editor spanned from 1929 through 1966 (*[The Pad and How to Use It](/source/The_Pad_and_How_to_Use_It)* (directed by [Brian G. Hutton](/source/Brian_G._Hutton), 1966).

In 1937 and 1938, he directed seven films: *[Love Letters of a Star](/source/Love_Letters_of_a_Star)*, *[She's Dangerous](/source/She's_Dangerous)*, *[Breezing Home](/source/Breezing_Home)*, *[The Man in Blue](/source/The_Man_in_Blue_(1937_film))*, *[Reported Missing!](/source/Reported_Missing!)*, *[The Lady Fights Back](/source/The_Lady_Fights_Back)* and *[Some Blondes Are Dangerous](/source/Some_Blondes_Are_Dangerous)*.[1] Following these films, he returned to his "first love", which was film editing.[2]

Carruth spent his entire career working at [Universal Studios](/source/Universal_Pictures); he was "one of three editors who served as the core of Universal's editing department for a span of some forty years".[3] He had been selected as a member of the [American Cinema Editors](/source/American_Cinema_Editors).[4]
