# Milner baronets

The **Milner baronetcy**, of [Nun Appleton Hall](/source/Nun_Appleton_Hall) in the [County of York](/source/County_of_York), is a title in the [Baronetage of Great Britain](/source/Baronetage_of_Great_Britain). It was created on 26 February 1717 for [William Milner](/source/Sir_William_Milner,_1st_Baronet), later [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament) for [York](/source/York_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) and Grand Master of the [Freemasons](/source/Freemasons). He was the son of William Milner (b. 1662), Mayor of Leeds, and his wife Mary, née Ibbetson.[1][2]

The 2nd Baronet was Receiver-General of [Excise](/source/Her_Majesty's_Customs_and_Excise) and [High Sheriff of Yorkshire](/source/High_Sheriff_of_Yorkshire). The 3rd and 5th Baronets both represented York in the House of Commons;[1] while the 4th Baronet served as High Sheriff.

The 7th Baronet succeeded his brother who died young: he was Member of Parliament for York and [Bassetlaw](/source/Bassetlaw_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) and joined the [Privy Council](/source/Her_Majesty's_Most_Honourable_Privy_Council) in 1900.[1] The 8th Baronet was an architect with [Milner and Craze](/source/Milner_and_Craze).

George Francis Milner, son of Henry Beilby William Milner, second son of the 4th Baronet, was a [brigadier-general](/source/Brigadier-general) in the [British Army](/source/British_Army). His son was the 9th Baronet. He relocated the family to South Africa, where the 10th Baronet now lives.
