==Biography==
Born to a [Slovene](/source/Slovenes) family the village of [Doberdò del Lago](/source/Doberd%C3%B2_del_Lago) ({{langx|sl|Doberdob}}) in the [Austrian Littoral](/source/Austrian_Littoral) (now part of [Italy](/source/Italy)), he attended the [State gymnasium](/source/Gymnasium_(school)) in [Gorizia](/source/Gorizia). He studied law at the universities of [Graz](/source/University_of_Graz) and [Vienna](/source/University_of_Vienna), graduating in 1910. In 1911, he started publishing articles on economic policies and economic theory. In 1914, he became the editor of the economic section of the [Viennese](/source/Vienna) newspaper ''[Reichspost](/source/Reichspost)''. 

During [World War I](/source/World_War_I), Brezigar maintained close contacts with the [Yugoslav Committee](/source/Yugoslav_Committee) through his friend, the Slovene émigré [Bogomil Vošnjak](/source/Bogomil_Vo%C5%A1njak); together with [Janko Hacin](/source/Janko_Hacin), Brezigar was among the organizers of a secret network which made [espionage](/source/espionage) on behalf of the [Entente](/source/Triple_Entente) against the [Austro-Hungarian Empire](/source/Austro-Hungarian_Empire)<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://arsq.gov.si/Query/detail.aspx?ID=27629|title=SI AS 1962 Hacin Janko, 1914-1915 (Fond/Zbirka)}}</ref>

After the establishment of the [State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs](/source/State_of_Slovenes%2C_Croats_and_Serbs) in October 1918, he moved to [Ljubljana](/source/Ljubljana). In 1919, he was member of the [Yugoslav](/source/Kingdom_of_Serbs%2C_Croats_and_Slovenes) delegation at the [Versailles conference](/source/Versailles_conference). In the same period, he joined the [Yugoslav Democratic Party](/source/Yugoslav_Democratic_Party), and was elected member of the Temporary Representative Assembly. As a close collaborator of the Slovenian liberal leader [Gregor Žerjav](/source/Gregor_%C5%BDerjav), Brezigar was influential in composing the Democratic Party's economic program, which was based on [economic liberalism](/source/economic_liberalism), but favoured state [economic protectionism](/source/economic_protectionism) against foreign capital. In this period, he published his most important work, ''An Outline of the Slovenian National Economy'' (1918). 

In 1920, he was named professor at the [University of Ljubljana](/source/University_of_Ljubljana), where he was among the founders of the Slovenian economic science. During this period, he did not engage in active politics, although he remained a member of the Democratic and later [Independent Democratic Party](/source/Independent_Democratic_Party_(Yugoslavia))

After the establishment of the Communist system in 1945, he left Yugoslavia and settled in Austria, dying in [Salzburg](/source/Salzburg) in 1958.
