# Mike Varty

**Michael Scott Matthew Varty** (born February 10, 1952) is an American former professional [football](/source/American_football) player who was a [linebacker](/source/Linebacker) in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL) for the [Washington Redskins](/source/Washington_Redskins) and [Baltimore Colts](/source/History_of_the_Indianapolis_Colts).[1] He played [college football](/source/College_football) for the [Northwestern Wildcats](/source/Northwestern_Wildcats_football) and was selected in the seventh round of the [1974 NFL draft](/source/1974_NFL_draft).[2]
