**Michael Molloy** (born 22 December 1940) is a British [author](/source/Author) and former [newspaper editor](/source/Newspaper_editor) and [cartoonist](/source/Cartoonist). He's also an accomplished painter, exhibiting in galleries across the UK and the [South of France](/source/South_of_France), and remains drawn to art as a deep creative passion.[1]

## Biography

Born in Perivale, Molloy studied at Ealing Junior School and the [Ealing School of Art](/source/Ealing_School_of_Art) before working at the *[Sunday Pictorial](/source/Sunday_Pictorial)* followed by the *[Daily Sketch](/source/Daily_Sketch)*, where he began drawing [cartoons](/source/Cartoon). In 1962, he joined the *[Daily Mirror](/source/Daily_Mirror)*, where he rose through the ranks until in 1975 he became editor.[2]

In 1985, [Robert Maxwell](/source/Robert_Maxwell) appointed Molloy [Editor-in-Chief](/source/Editor-in-Chief) of the *Daily Mirror*, *[Sunday Mirror](/source/Sunday_Mirror)* and *[The People](/source/The_Sunday_People)*, where he introduced colour printing.[2] From 1986 to 1988, he additionally edited the *Sunday Mirror*.[3]

From 1985 to 1995, Molloy wrote seven crime [fiction](/source/Fiction) books set in England, four featuring Sarah Keane and three featuring Lewis Home.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

In 1990, Molloy left the Mirror Group, and in 1996 he bought *[Punch](/source/Punch_(magazine))* on behalf of [Mohammed Al Fayed](/source/Mohammed_Al_Fayed). He became its deputy editor, but left after six issues.[2]

After retiring from the newspaper industry, he began writing children's [fantasy](/source/Fantasy) novels.[3]
