# Mike Findlay

**Thaddeus Michael** "**Mike**" **Findlay** (born 19 October 1943 at [Troumaca](/source/Troumaca), [Saint Vincent](/source/Saint_Vincent_(Saint_Vincent_and_the_Grenadines))) is a former [West Indian](/source/West_Indian_cricket_team) [cricketer](/source/Cricket) who played in ten [Tests](/source/Test_cricket) from 1969 to 1973 as a wicketkeeper.[1]

When he toured [Australia](/source/West_Indian_cricket_team_in_Australia_in_1968%E2%80%9369) and [New Zealand](/source/West_Indian_cricket_team_in_New_Zealand_in_1968%E2%80%9369) in 1968–69, Findlay became the first player from the Leeward and Windward Islands to represent the West Indies. ([Alphonso Roberts](/source/Alphonso_Roberts) came from [St Vincent](/source/Saint_Vincent_and_the_Grenadines) but was playing in Trinidad when he was selected for the West Indies team.) He also toured [England in 1969](/source/West_Indian_cricket_team_in_England_in_1969) and [1976](/source/West_Indian_cricket_team_in_England_in_1976). Findlay says he found the experience and support of his teammates helpful when he entered the West Indies team: "I never forgot when I first went on tour with the West Indies team. An experienced player was given a younger player as his mentor. [Wes Hall](/source/Wes_Hall) was a mentor to me. [Jackie Hendriks](/source/Jackie_Hendriks) was the No. 1 keeper, and Jackie would sit with me and pass on his experience."[2]

Findlay played [first-class cricket](/source/First-class_cricket) for the [Windward Islands](/source/Windward_Islands_cricket_team) and the [Combined Islands](/source/Combined_Islands_cricket_team) from 1965 to 1978. He [captained](/source/Captain_(cricket)) both teams in most of their matches from 1970 to 1978.[1]

After his career as a cricketer, Findlay became a journalist and commentated on matches. In 2002 he stepped down as Chairman of Selectors for the West Indies team.[3] In 2007 he managed the West Indian team on its [tour of England](/source/West_Indian_cricket_team_in_England_in_2007).[4]
