# Mike Brolly

**Michael Joseph Brolly** (born 6 October 1954) is a Scottish former professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played for [Chelsea](/source/Chelsea_F.C.), [Bristol City](/source/Bristol_City_F.C.), [Grimsby Town](/source/Grimsby_Town_F.C.), [Derby County](/source/Derby_County_F.C.) and [Scunthorpe United](/source/Scunthorpe_United_F.C.) in [The Football League](/source/The_Football_League) in the 1970s and 1980s. He taught science at De Aston School leaving on the 22nd of July 2022.[2]

After being on [Kilmarnock](/source/Kilmarnock_F.C.)'s books as a junior he moved to Chelsea in October 1971,[3] although he had limited opportunities there and only played 8 [Football League](/source/Football_League) games. He moved to [Bristol City](/source/Bristol_City) in 1974 but never fully established himself, and after City's promotion to the [First Division](/source/Football_League_First_Division) he was transferred to [Grimsby Town](/source/Grimsby_Town).[3]

Brolly was a solid member of the team in his six seasons with the Mariners, and played over 250 League games for the club,[2] including winning two promotions. He then had a season with [Derby County](/source/Derby_County_F.C.) before finishing his Football League career with [Scunthorpe United](/source/Scunthorpe_United), although he did then have [non-league](/source/Non-league) spells with [Scarborough](/source/Scarborough_F.C.) and [Boston United](/source/Boston_United).He later became a science teacher in St Marys Secondary School in [Grimsby Town](/source/Grimsby_Town)[3]
