In his career he played mostly for [Akademik Sofia](/source/PFC_Akademik_Sofia) and [Levski Sofia](/source/PFC_Levski_Sofia).

==Career==
In 1979 Valchev joined [Akademik Sofia](/source/PFC_Akademik_Sofia), where he scored 38 goals for two seasons. In 1981 he left to join [Levski Sofia](/source/PFC_Levski_Sofia), where he won two [Bulgarian League](/source/First_Professional_Football_League_(Bulgaria)) titles, two [Bulgarian Cup](/source/Bulgarian_Cup)s and one [Cup of the Soviet Army](/source/Cup_of_the_Soviet_Army_(1983%E2%80%931990)). Valchev had a successful start to his career at the club by being the league's top goalscorer in its [inaugural season](/source/1981%E2%80%9382_A_Group), scoring 24 goals. Between 1981 and 1986 he scored 109 goals in 177 matches for the club in all competitions. In [1983](/source/1983-84_UEFA_Cup), Valchev scored two goals for Levski against one of the biggest German clubs [VfB Stuttgart](/source/VfB_Stuttgart) with which Levski eliminated the Bundesliga team.

In March 1998, Valchev was appointed Levski Sofia manager and led the team to a famous 5–0 win over city rivals [CSKA Sofia](/source/PFC_CSKA_Sofia) in the [1998 Bulgarian Cup Final](/source/1998_Bulgarian_Cup_Final). As a manager, he has worked also for Kremikovtsi Sofia, [Rilski Sportist Samokov](/source/FC_Rilski_Sportist_Samokov), [Chernomorets Burgas](/source/FC_Chernomorets_Burgas), Levski Dolna Banya and [Belasitsa Petrich](/source/OFC_Belasitsa_Petrich).
