**Miesitz** (German pronunciation: [\[ˈmiːzɪts\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Standard_German)) is a municipality in the district of [Saale-Orla-Kreis](/source/Saale-Orla-Kreis), in the state of [Thuringia](/source/Thuringia), Germany. It is part of the [municipal association](/source/Municipal_association_(Germany)) known as [Triptis](/source/Triptis_(Verwaltungsgemeinschaft)).

## Geography

Miesitz is located in the southeastern region of Thuringia, approximately 70 kilometers south of [Erfurt](/source/Erfurt) and 40 kilometers east of [Jena](/source/Jena). The municipality sits at an elevation of about 330 meters above sea level and covers an area of 4.42 square kilometers.[3] The surrounding area is characterized by rolling hills, forests, and agricultural land.

## History

The first documented mention of Miesitz dates back to the early [Middle Ages](/source/Middle_Ages), though the exact date is unclear. Over the centuries, it has remained a small, rural village with a strong agricultural tradition. During the [German Democratic Republic](/source/German_Democratic_Republic) (East Germany) era, the region was primarily used for collective farming. Since the reunification of Germany, Miesitz has seen gradual development, with a focus on preserving its historical and rural charm.
