**Michael John Block** (28 January 1940 – 12 December 2019) was an English professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [right winger](/source/Midfielder#Winger). He made nearly 200 [Football League](/source/English_Football_League) appearances for [Chelsea](/source/Chelsea_F.C.), [Brentford](/source/Brentford_F.C.) and [Watford](/source/Watford_F.C.) over a 10-year period.[1]

## Career

Born in [Ipswich](/source/Ipswich), Block began his career with the youth team at [First Division](/source/Football_League_First_Division) club [Chelsea](/source/Chelsea_F.C.) and played in both legs of the [1958 FA Youth Cup Final](/source/FA_Youth_Cup_Finals_of_the_1950s).[1][4][5] Block progressed to the Chelsea first team and made 40 appearances and scored six goals between 1957 and 1962.[3]

Block left Chelsea for [Brentford](/source/Brentford_F.C.) for £5,000 in January 1962.[6] While with Brentford, he was the provider of [assists](/source/Assist_(soccer)) for many goals scored by the club's all-international frontline of [Johnny Brooks](/source/Johnny_Brooks), [Billy McAdams](/source/Billy_McAdams) and [John Dick](/source/John_Dick_(footballer%2C_born_1930)).[7] He later played for [Watford](/source/Watford_F.C.),[8] before dropping into [non-League football](/source/Non-League_football) with [Chelmsford City](/source/Chelmsford_City_F.C.) in 1967.[8]
