Not to be confused with the [Mitchigan River](/source/Mitchigan_River) in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The **Michigan River** is a tributary of the [North Platte River](/source/North_Platte_River), approximately 69 miles (111 km) long,[2] in north central [Colorado](/source/Colorado) in the [United States](/source/United_States). It drains a rural part of the eastern side of [North Park](/source/North_Park_(Colorado_basin)) in eastern [Jackson County](/source/Jackson_County,_Colorado). The river issues from [Michigan Lakes](/source/Michigan_Lakes), a chain of alpine lakes at 11,208 ft (3,416 m), along the [continental divide](/source/Continental_divide) in southeast Jackson County just east of [Nokhu Crags](/source/Nokhu_Crags). It descends north then west to flow past the south end of [Cameron Pass](/source/Cameron_Pass_(Colorado)), and descends from the pass along the route of [State Highway 14](/source/Colorado_State_Highway_14), past [Gould](/source/Gould,_Colorado), then northwest through the ranch country of North Park, where it becomes a largely braided stream with a wide river bottom. It passes just east of [Walden](/source/Walden,_Colorado), and receives the [Illinois River](/source/Illinois_River_(Colorado)) from the south just north of Walden. It joins the North Platte from the south approximately 5 miles (8 km) downstream to the north.
