# Michelle McDonald

**Michelle McDonald** (born February 1, 1964) is a Canadian former competitive [ice dancer](/source/Ice_dancer). With [Martin Smith](/source/Martin_Smith_(figure_skater)), she is the 1991 [Canadian national](/source/Canadian_Figure_Skating_Championships) champion. With [Mark Mitchell](/source/Mark_Mitchell_(Canadian_figure_skater)), she is the [1989 Skate Canada International](/source/1989_Skate_Canada_International) silver medalist and a two-time national silver medalist. In total, she competed at three World Championships, achieving her best result (9th) in [1990](/source/1990_World_Figure_Skating_Championships).

## Career

McDonald won the 1983 Canadian national junior title with Patrick Mandley. They finished 7th at the 1983 [Nebelhorn Trophy](/source/Nebelhorn_Trophy) and 9th at the [1984 Skate Canada International](/source/1984_Skate_Canada_International).

With [Michael Farrington](/source/Michael_Farrington), she won bronze at the 1986 [Nebelhorn Trophy](/source/Nebelhorn_Trophy) and placed sixth at the [1986 Skate Canada International](/source/1986_Skate_Canada_International).

Her next partner was [Mark Mitchell](/source/Mark_Mitchell_(Canadian_figure_skater)). The two placed sixth at the [1988 Skate America](/source/1988_Skate_America), won silver at the 1989 [Canadian Championships](/source/Canadian_Figure_Skating_Championships), and finished 11th at the [1989 World Championships](/source/1989_World_Figure_Skating_Championships) in [Paris](/source/Paris). The following season, they won silver at the [1989 Skate Canada International](/source/1989_Skate_Canada_International), repeated as national silver medalists, and placed 9th at the [1990 World Championships](/source/1990_World_Figure_Skating_Championships) in [Halifax, Nova Scotia](/source/Halifax,_Nova_Scotia), Canada. They parted ways after the [1990 Goodwill Games](/source/Figure_skating_at_the_1990_Goodwill_Games), where they finished fifth.

McDonald competed the next two seasons with [Martin Smith](/source/Martin_Smith_(figure_skater)). They won the 1991 Canadian national title and finished 16th at the [1991 World Championships](/source/1991_World_Figure_Skating_Championships) in [Munich](/source/Munich), Germany. They dropped to third at the 1992 Canadian Championships and were not included in Canada's team to the [1992 Winter Olympics](/source/Figure_skating_at_the_1992_Winter_Olympics).
