From 1991 to September 2013 he was director of the [Cabinet des Médailles](/source/Cabinet_des_M%C3%A9dailles), the Department of Coins, Medals and Antiquities of the [Bibliothèque nationale de France](/source/Biblioth%C3%A8que_nationale_de_France). He also teaches numismatics as 'directeur d'études' in the [École pratique des hautes études](/source/%C3%89cole_pratique_des_hautes_%C3%A9tudes) in Paris. His research focus is the numismatics of the [Roman Empire](/source/Roman_Empire).
