Michael Tyler Spragg was born in [Thayer, Missouri](/source/Thayer%2C_Missouri). He began performing music at age eight, and at age thirteen, he was mentored by [Michael Knox](/source/Michael_Knox_(record_producer)), who is [Jason Aldean](/source/Jason_Aldean)'s record producer. Knox invited Tyler to [Nashville, Tennessee](/source/Nashville%2C_Tennessee), where he began performing at [Tootsie's Orchid Lounge](/source/Tootsie's_Orchid_Lounge). This led to him securing a songwriter contract with Peer Music, in addition to writing songs for Aldean, [LoCash](/source/LoCash), and other artists. Among the songs Tyler wrote was [Dierks Bentley](/source/Dierks_Bentley)'s "[Somewhere on a Beach](/source/Somewhere_on_a_Beach)", which went to number one on the ''[Billboard](/source/Billboard_(magazine))'' [Country Airplay](/source/Country_Airplay) charts.<ref name="allmusic">{{cite web | url=https://www.allmusic.com/artist/michael-tyler-mn0003319737 | title=Michael Tyler biography | publisher=[AllMusic](/source/AllMusic) | accessdate=June 11, 2025 | author=Mark Deming}}</ref>

In 2017, Tyler signed with Reviver Records, the same independent label to which LoCash was signed at the time. That same year he released his debut album ''317''.<ref>{{cite web | url=https://theboot.com/michael-tyler-songs/ | title=Michael Tyler: Tough love from his producer helped hone his songwriting | publisher=[The Boot](/source/The_Boot_(website)) | accessdate=June 11, 2025 | date=March 25, 2017 |author=Gayle Thompson}}</ref> The album included the single "They Can't See", which was also made into a [music video](/source/music_video). The video included guest appearances from songwriter [Shane Minor](/source/Shane_Minor) and song publisher [Charlie Monk](/source/Charlie_Monk_(broadcaster)).<ref>{{cite web | url=https://theboot.com/michael-tyler-317-interview-2017/ | title=Interview: Michael Tyler wanted ''317'' to 'sound so different' | publisher=The Boot | date=March 17, 2017 | accessdate=June 11, 2025 |author=Gayle Thompson}}</ref> "They Can't See" charted for 21 weeks on ''Billboard'' Country Airplay, peaking at number 46.<ref name="whitburn">{{cite book|last=Whitburn|first=Joel|title=Hot Country Songs 1944 to 2017|publisher=Record Research, Inc|year=2017|page=373|isbn=978-0-89820-229-8}}</ref>
