**Michael A. Reinstein** is an American businessman, [lawyer](/source/Lawyer), [private equity](/source/Private_equity) executive, and the founder and chairman of [Regent](/source/Regent%2C_L.P.), a global private equity firm.[1]

## Early life

Michael Reinstein was born in [Los Angeles, California](/source/Los_Angeles%2C_California). He attended [Southern Methodist University](/source/Southern_Methodist_University) and graduated from the [University of Southern California](/source/University_of_Southern_California) and [Pepperdine University School of Law](/source/Pepperdine_University_School_of_Law). He is a member of the [State Bar of California](/source/State_Bar_of_California).[2]

## Career

Reinstein is the founder and chairman of [Regent](/source/Regent%2C_L.P.), a multi-sector private equity firm. Reinstein started his career as an intern under former [President Ronald Reagan](/source/President_Ronald_Reagan) and later worked at [ICM Partners](/source/ICM_Partners). He is currently the chairman of several [Regent](/source/Regent%2C_L.P.) businesses, including [Escada](/source/Escada),[3] [La Senza](/source/La_Senza), Sassoon, Regis Salons, [Supercuts](/source/Supercuts) [UK](/source/United_Kingdom), [Lillian Vernon](/source/Lillian_Vernon)[4] and [Sightline Media Group](/source/Sightline_Media_Group). He also serves as the Publisher of Regent's various newspaper, magazine, and media properties, including *[Sunset](/source/Sunset_(magazine))* Magazine,[5] *[Defense News](/source/Defense_News)*, *[Army Times](/source/Army_Times)*, *[Navy Times](/source/Navy_Times)*, *[Air Force Times](/source/Air_Force_Times)*, *[Marine Corps Times](/source/Marine_Corps_Times)*, *[Armed Forces Journal](/source/Armed_Forces_Journal)*, and *[Federal Times](/source/Federal_Times)* among others.[6] He was the chief executive officer of [The Franklin Mint](/source/The_Franklin_Mint) as well as CEO of [CinemaNow](/source/CinemaNow).[7]

Reinstein is also the founder of the Military Charity Organization, a Washington D.C.–based [non-profit](/source/Non-profit) that operates the Service Members of the Year Honors Program. He is a member of the [Young Presidents' Organization](/source/Young_Presidents'_Organization) and has served on several private and public company boards including Pegasus Solutions,[8][9] and [NexTag](/source/NexTag) as well as the [Australian Stock Exchange](/source/Australian_Stock_Exchange) listed technology company Structural Monitoring Systems.[2][10]
