After one season with the Blue Jackets and having completed his entry-level contract, Paliotta was not tendered a qualifying offer to remain with the club. As a free agent, Paliotta was signed to a one-year, two-way contract with the [New York Rangers](/source/New_York_Rangers) on July 1, 2016.<ref>{{cite web | url = http://www.blueshirtsunited.com/article/rangers-agree-terms-michael-paliotta | title = Rangers agree to terms with Michael Paliotta | publisher = [New York Rangers](/source/New_York_Rangers) | date = 2016-07-01 | accessdate = 2016-07-02 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20160708142542/http://www.blueshirtsunited.com/article/rangers-agree-terms-michael-paliotta | archive-date = July 8, 2016 | url-status = dead }}</ref> He spent the duration of the [2016–17](/source/2016-17_AHL_season) season, with AHL affiliate, the [Hartford Wolf Pack](/source/Hartford_Wolf_Pack).

Paliotta went unsigned from the Texas Stars over the summer, before agreeing as a free agent to a one-year AHL contract with the [Stockton Heat](/source/Stockton_Heat), affiliate to the [Calgary Flames](/source/Calgary_Flames) on September 14, 2018.<ref>{{cite web| url = http://stocktonheat.com/news/flames-announce-camp-roster-and-schedule/ | title = Flames announce camp roster and schedule | publisher = [Stockton Heat](/source/Stockton_Heat) | date = 2018-09-14 | accessdate = 2018-09-14}}</ref> In the [2018–19](/source/2018-19_AHL_season) season, Pailotta recorded 4 assists in 32 games from the blueline for the Heat.
