# Michael Nali

**Michael Nali** [CBE](/source/Order_of_the_British_Empire) (born 1961) is a [Papua New Guinean](/source/Papua_New_Guinea) politician.[1] He was the leader of the [People's Progress Party](/source/People's_Progress_Party) from 2002 to 2007 and was Member of [Parliament](/source/National_Parliament_of_Papua_New_Guinea) for the electorate of Mendi Open, in [Southern Highlands Province](/source/Southern_Highlands_Province), from 1992 until 2007. During this period he held various ministerial positions, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry. At the [2007 general election](/source/2007_Papua_New_Guinean_general_election) he chose to contest the Southern Highlands Provincial electorate, which was won by [Anderson Agiru](/source/Anderson_Agiru).

He was appointed [Commander of the Order of the British Empire](/source/Commander_of_the_Order_of_the_British_Empire) (CBE) in the 2008 Birthday Honours.[2]
