After finishing law school in 1981, Klausner clerked for Justice [William J. Brennan Jr.](/source/William_J._Brennan_Jr.) of the [U.S. Supreme Court](/source/U.S._Supreme_Court) and Judge [David L. Bazelon](/source/David_L._Bazelon) of the [U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit](/source/U.S._Court_of_Appeals_for_the_District_of_Columbia_Circuit). He then worked as an associate with [Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison](/source/Paul%2C_Weiss%2C_Rifkind%2C_Wharton_%26_Garrison) and [Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher](/source/Gibson%2C_Dunn_%26_Crutcher). Following his work as a corporate law practitioner, Klausner served as a [White House Fellow](/source/White_House_Fellow) in the Office of Policy Development under [George H. W. Bush](/source/George_H._W._Bush). In 1991, he joined the [New York University School of Law](/source/New_York_University_School_of_Law) faculty as a professor until 1997 when he became a professor at Stanford.
