Binger graduated from [North Carolina State University](/source/North_Carolina_State_University) before receiving a [Ph.D.](/source/Doctor_of_Philosophy) in [theoretical physics](/source/theoretical_physics) from [Stanford University](/source/Stanford_University) in 2006. Just two months after receiving his PhD, he outlasted 8,770 players in the [2006 World Series of Poker](/source/2006_World_Series_of_Poker) (WSOP) $10,000 [No limit](/source/Betting_(poker)) [Texas Hold'em](/source/Texas_Hold'em) Main Event, finishing third and earning $4,123,310. Binger had reached a final table earlier in that year's WSOP, finishing sixth.

Since the 2006 WSOP, Binger has finished in the money of six [World Poker Tour](/source/World_Poker_Tour) events. At the [2007 WSOP](/source/2007_World_Series_of_Poker), Binger tied [Chris Ferguson](/source/Chris_Ferguson), [Phil Hellmuth](/source/Phil_Hellmuth) and [Humberto Brenes](/source/Humberto_Brenes) for second most cashes of any player in a single [World Series of Poker](/source/World_Series_of_Poker) season with eight. This included a final table appearance in [Event 22](/source/2007_World_Series_of_Poker_results) a $5,000 buy-in No limit Texas Hold'em tournament (finishing 3rd) won by [James Mackey](/source/James_Mackey_(poker_player)).
