The '''Metropolitan Crosstown Line''' was a surface [public transit](/source/public_transit) line in [Manhattan](/source/Manhattan), [New York City](/source/New_York_City), [United States](/source/United_States), connecting the [14th Street Ferry](/source/14th_Street_Ferry) and [Desbrosses Street Ferry](/source/Desbrosses_Street_Ferry) on the [Hudson River](/source/Hudson_River) with the [Grand Street Ferry](/source/Grand_Street_Ferry) on the [East River](/source/East_River). It was owned by the [New York Railways Company](/source/New_York_Railways_Company), and contained the [Spring and Delancey Streets Line](/source/Spring_and_Delancey_Streets_Line) streetcars. The company was discontinued September 21, 1919 but restored from February 1, 1920 to May 20, 1931 by court order.<ref>Stephen L.
