'''Metronapoli SpA''' was an Italian company responsible for the provision of [public transport](/source/public_transport) in the city of [Naples](/source/Naples), and its primary function was the operation and maintenance of the [Naples Metro](/source/Naples_Metro) system.  It was founded on 26 July 2000 and became operational on 1 February 2001. Metronapoli was a fully state-controlled joint-stock corporation. Its functions were absorbed by [Azienda Napoletana Mobilità s.p.a. Metronapoli was a subsidiary company controlled by two organisations, initially three. Metronapoli operated the transport services and maintenance of [Line 1](/source/Line_1_(Naples_metro)) and [Line 6](/source/Line_6_(Naples_metro)) of the [metro](/source/Rapid_transit) system, as well as the four [funicular](/source/funicular) railways ([Central Funicular](/source/Central_Funicular), [Chiaia Funicular](/source/Chiaia_Funicular), [Mergellina Funicular](/source/Mergellina_Funicular) and [Montesanto Funicular](/source/Montesanto_Funicular)).<ref name="janes2009"/>

Metronapoli also operated [Line 2](/source/Line_2_(Naples)), a [commuter rail](/source/commuter_rail) line, from 2001 until 2005. Operation of line 2 was taken over by Trenitalia in November 2005.<ref name="janes2009"/>
