In [queueing theory](/source/Queueing_theory), the **method of supplementary variables** is a technique to solve for the stationary distribution of an [M/G/1 queue](/source/M/G/1_queue). It was introduced by [David Cox](/source/David_Cox_(statistician))[1] and [David George Kendall](/source/David_George_Kendall).[2]
