# Metalith

**The Metalith** is a prefabricated steel barrier and the name of the product division of Infrastructure Defense Technologies of [Belvidere, Illinois](/source/Belvidere,_Illinois), which manufactures the barrier. It is used in [perimeter defense](/source/Infantry_tactics) against [explosive penetration](/source/Explosively_formed_penetrator) and [ramming](/source/Ramming). It has been deployed by the [US Armed Forces](/source/US_Armed_Forces) in their 21st century wars in [Iraq](/source/War_in_Iraq) and [Afghanistan](/source/War_in_Afghanistan_(2001%E2%80%93present)).[1][2][3][4][5]

A related product from IDT is the Metalith H2O flood control barrier, a system of prefabricated, interlocking aluminum barriers for flood defense, designed to hold ballast such as sand. [Army Corps of Engineers](/source/United_States_Army_Corps_of_Engineers) tests have shown they can be assembled 20 times faster than sandbags and faster than any other tested flood control system, with relatively low seepage rates.[6]
