'''Mespelare''' is a village and a district in the municipality of [Dendermonde](/source/Dendermonde), in [East Flanders](/source/East_Flanders), [Belgium](/source/Belgium).

During the [Middle Ages](/source/Middle_Ages), the village was owned by the [Count of Flanders](/source/Count_of_Flanders). It later passed into the hands of the Royen and [Goubau families](/source/Goubau_family). The village church, dedicated to [Saint Aldegund](/source/Aldegund), is of [Romanesque origins](/source/Romanesque_architecture) and dates to the 12th century. In front of the church, an 18th century [pillory](/source/pillory) has been preserved; it contains the coat of arms of the Goubau family which at the time were the lords of the village.<ref name=grguide>{{cite book |editor-last= Vandeputte|editor-first= Omer|date= 2014|title= Le grand guide de Flandres et de Bruxelles|location= Brussels|publisher= Racine|pages= 304–305|isbn=978-94-014-1442-5}}</ref>
