**Meshir** ([Coptic](/source/Coptic_language): Ⲙⲉϣⲓⲣ), also known as **Mechir** or **Mecheir** ([Ancient Greek](/source/Ancient_Greek_language): Μεχίρ, *Mekhír*) and **Amshir**[1] ([Egyptian Arabic](/source/Egyptian_Arabic_language): أمشير [\[ʔæmˈʃiːɾ\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Egyptian_Arabic)), is the sixth month of the ancient [Egyptian](/source/Egyptian_calendar) and [Coptic calendars](/source/Coptic_calendar). It lies between February 8 and March 9 of the [Gregorian calendar](/source/Gregorian_calendar).

The month of Meshir is also the second month of the Season of [Proyet](/source/Season_of_the_Emergence) (Growth and Emergence) in [ancient Egypt](/source/Ancient_Egypt), when the [Nile floods recede](/source/Flooding_of_the_Nile) and the crops start to grow throughout the land of [Egypt](/source/Egypt).

## Name

The name of the month of Meshir comes from [Mechir](/source/Mechir), the Ancient Egyptian God genius of wind [*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*].
