# Merugia

***Merugia*** is a [genus](/source/Genus) of [fungi](/source/Fungus) in the [Sordariomycetes](/source/Sordariomycetes) class (subclass [Sordariomycetidae](/source/Sordariomycetidae)) of the [Ascomycota](/source/Ascomycota). The relationship of this [taxon](/source/Taxon) to other taxa within the [class](/source/Class_(biology)) is unknown (*[incertae sedis](/source/Incertae_sedis)*), and it has not yet been placed with certainty into any [order](/source/Order_(biology)) or [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)). This is a [monotypic](/source/Monotypic) genus, containing the single species ***Merugia palicoureae***, found on the living [petioles](/source/Petiole_(botany)) of *[Palicourea](/source/Palicourea)* plants in [Guyana](/source/Guyana).[1] The genus and species were described by mycologists [Clark Thomas Rogerson](/source/Clark_Thomas_Rogerson) and Gary J. Samuels in 1990.[2]
