**Meriden** (/ˈmɛərɪdən/ MAIR-id-ən)[2] is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) in [Meriden Township](/source/Meriden_Township,_Steele_County,_Minnesota), [Steele County](/source/Steele_County,_Minnesota), [Minnesota](/source/Minnesota), United States, near [Owatonna](/source/Owatonna,_Minnesota) and [Waseca](/source/Waseca,_Minnesota). The community is located along SW 92nd Avenue (County 18) near SW 13th Street.

## History

Meriden was laid out in 1867.[3] The community was named after [Meriden, Connecticut](/source/Meriden,_Connecticut), the native home of a first settler.[4] The Meriden post office was discontinued in 1992.[5]
