**Mergozzo** (*Margözz* in [Ossolano](/source/Ossolano) dialect) is a *[comune](/source/Comune)* (municipality) in the [Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola](/source/Province_of_Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) in the Italian region [Piedmont](/source/Piedmont), located about 120 kilometres (75 mi) northeast of Turin and about 9 kilometres (6 mi) northwest of [Verbania](/source/Verbania).

Mergozzo borders the following municipalities: [Gravellona Toce](/source/Gravellona_Toce), [Ornavasso](/source/Ornavasso), [Premosello-Chiovenda](/source/Premosello-Chiovenda), [San Bernardino Verbano](/source/San_Bernardino_Verbano), [Verbania](/source/Verbania).

## Economy

Tourism based on the attractions of [Lake Mergozzo](/source/Lake_Mergozzo), nearly all of which falls within the territory of the *comune*, forms the principal basis of the local economy. Next in importance is the quarrying and working of stone. The pink marble of [Candoglia](/source/Candoglia), which was employed in building the [Duomo di Milano](/source/Duomo_di_Milano) from the 14th century on, is still extracted; the stone of [Montorfano](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Montorfano_(Mergozzo)&action=edit&redlink=1) is exported throughout the world.

The agricultural sector is also active.[4]

## Sport

In the area of the village Nibbio, in the municipality of Mergozzo there is a rock climbing area called *La Panoramica*.
