**Meleni Smith**, also known by her stage name **Polly A.**, is an American singer-songwriter from [Milwaukee](/source/Milwaukee), [Wisconsin](/source/Wisconsin).

## Early life

She was born in [Flint, Michigan](/source/Flint%2C_Michigan) and raised by a Jamaican mother in [Milwaukee, Wisconsin](/source/Milwaukee%2C_Wisconsin).[1]

## Musical career

Previously signed to [Columbia Records](/source/Columbia_Records), she released the EP 'Meet Me in the Bathroom' on August 2, 2005.[2] She is also credited as a composer alongside [Toby Gad](/source/Toby_Gad) for the song 'Happy' from the 2005 film [Hitch](/source/Hitch_(film)) soundtrack.[3] Meleni Smith is credited as being a composer alongside producer [Kerry Brothers](/source/Kerry_Brothers), producer/songwriter [Toby Gad](/source/Toby_Gad) and singer [Alicia Keys](/source/Alicia_Keys) for the 2009 song "Love is My Disease".[4] She independently released the album 'My Heart in Focus' in February 2012.[5][6] She was nominated in the 2013 [Soul Train Music Awards](/source/Soul_Train_Music_Awards) for Record of the Year for co-writing the song "[Crooked Smile](/source/Crooked_Smile)" by rapper [J. Cole](/source/J._Cole).[7]

In December 2014, Meleni Smith released an EP titled *Distorted Fairytales*.[8]
