==Biography==
Rabbi Meir Atlas was born in 1848 in [Baisagola](/source/Baisagola), [Lithuania](/source/Lithuania). In 1875, together with [Rabbi Zvi Yaakov Oppenheim](/source/Zvi_Yaakov_Oppenheim), [Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Abel](/source/Shlomo_Zalman_Abel) and the help of a German [Jewish](/source/Jewish) layman, Ovadyah Lachman, Atlas founded the [Telz Yeshiva](/source/Telz_Yeshiva) in [Telz](/source/Tel%C5%A1iai), Lithuania. He later served as rabbi and spiritual leader in a number of cities, including [Libau](/source/Liep%C4%81ja) in [Latvia](/source/Latvia), [Salant](/source/Salantai) in [Lithuania](/source/Lithuania), and [Kobryn](/source/Kobryn) in [Belarus](/source/Belarus). In 1904, Rabbi Atlas was appointed rabbi to the community of [Shavel](/source/%C5%A0iauliai).

Meir's brother was Rabbi Eliezer Atlas. His daughter Michle was married to [Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman](/source/Elchonon_Wasserman),<ref>Weekly Biography: Hagaon Harav Elchanan Wasserman, Hy"d, ''Hamodia'' Newspaper, July 9, 2008, page C3</ref> His other sons-in-law include [Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski](/source/Chaim_Ozer_Grodzinski) and [Rabbi Yehudel Kahana Shapiro](/source/Yehudel_Kahana_Shapiro), the son of [Rabbi Zalman Sender Kahana Shapiro](/source/Zalman_Sender_Kahana_Shapiro).  Rabbi Meir died on the 12th of [Shevat](/source/Shevat) in 1926.
