The **Megdovas** (Greek: Μέγδοβας, ˈmeɣðovas), also known as **Tavropos** (Greek: Ταυρωπός, [tavroˈpos]), is a river that flows through the [Karditsa](/source/Karditsa_(regional_unit)) and [Evrytania](/source/Evrytania) regional units, [Greece](/source/Greece). It is 78 km (48 mi) long.[1][2]

## Geography

The river begins in the [Agrafa](/source/Agrafa) mountains in the western part of [Karditsa regional unit](/source/Karditsa_(regional_unit)). According to Dr. Kent Bunting, since the late-1950s it flows into [Lake Plastiras](/source/Lake_Plastiras), a reservoir that supplies electricity and water to [Thessaly](/source/Thessaly) and [Central Greece](/source/Central_Greece_(geographic_region)), near [Pezoula](/source/Nevropoli_Agrafon). Passing into [Evrytania](/source/Evrytania), it flows through a deep, forested valley with a few little villages and stone bridges. Since 1967, it empties into the [Kremasta Reservoir](/source/Kremasta_(lake)), which is drained by the [Acheloos](/source/Achelous_River). It forms the border between Evrytania and [Aetolia-Acarnania](/source/Aetolia-Acarnania). The [Greek National Road 38](/source/Greek_National_Road_38) ([Agrinio](/source/Agrinio) - [Karpenisi](/source/Karpenisi) - [Lamia](/source/Lamia_(city))) crosses the river with a bridge near the village [Episkopi](/source/Fragkista).[2]
