# Mchuchuma

**Mchuchuma** in south western [Tanzania](/source/Tanzania) near [Ludewa](/source/Ludewa) off the northern tip of [Lake Nyasa](/source/Lake_Nyasa), is the site of major coal deposits.[1] There is also a thermal power station costing$612m.[2] Recent studies indicate that Mchuchuma/[Ketewaka](/source/Ketewaka)[3] coal deposits should be connected to the coast by rail to facilitate exports.[4][5] The railway that will be built will be part of the [Mtwara Development Corridor](/source/Mtwara_Development_Corridor) project.
