**McKeever** is a Scottish and Irish surname. The name is derived from the [Gaelic](/source/Irish_language) [Mac Íomhair](/source/Mac_%C3%8Domhair), meaning "‘son of *Íomhar*". The Gaelic [personal name](/source/Personal_name) *Íomhar* is a form of the [Old Norse](/source/Old_Norse) personal name *Ivarr*.[1] Similar surnames or variants are *[McIver, MacIver](/source/McIver),* *[McIvor and MacIvor](/source/McIvor_(surname))*.[2][3] Native Gaelic surnames Mac Éibhir and Mac Éimhir also exist, and Flann Ó Riain, in his "What's That" column in The Irish Times, states that some Mac Íomhairs may originally have been Mac Éibhir.
