**Maxime Arseneau** (born 24 November 1949) is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) radio host and [teacher](/source/Teacher) and former [Quebec](/source/Quebec) politician. He was the Member of [National Assembly of Quebec](/source/National_Assembly_of_Quebec) for the [riding](/source/Riding_(division)) of [Îles-de-la-Madeleine](/source/%C3%8Eles-de-la-Madeleine_(provincial_electoral_district)). He represents the [Parti Québécois](/source/Parti_Qu%C3%A9b%C3%A9cois) and was a former [minister](/source/Minister_(government)) in the cabinets of Former [Premiers](/source/Premier) [Lucien Bouchard](/source/Lucien_Bouchard) and [Bernard Landry](/source/Bernard_Landry). Arseneau served as MNA from 1998 to 2008.

Born in [Havre-aux-Maisons (Village), Quebec](/source/Les_%C3%8Eles-de-la-Madeleine%2C_Quebec#Havre-aux-Maisons), Arseneau went at the [Université de Montréal](/source/Universit%C3%A9_de_Montr%C3%A9al) and obtained a [bachelor's degree](/source/Bachelor's_degree) in history and later received a certificate in [science education](/source/Science_education) at the [Université du Québec à Montréal](/source/Universit%C3%A9_du_Qu%C3%A9bec_%C3%A0_Montr%C3%A9al) in 1979. He then became a history and economics teacher for nearly 15 years. He was later an assistant director in the Department of Continuing Education at the [Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles](/source/C%C3%A9gep_de_la_Gasp%C3%A9sie_et_des_%C3%8Eles) for 10 years.

He would also host a show at [CFIM](/source/CFIM-FM), a community [radio station](/source/Radio_station) and would be active in politics being the president of the Parti Québécois in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine region twice, while he was the vice-president of the YES committee in the [1995 referendum](/source/1995_Quebec_referendum).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

Arseneau was first elected as an MNA for Îles-de-la-Madeleine in [1998](/source/1998_Quebec_general_election) and was named the delegate minister for tourism and the minister responsible for the [Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine](/source/Gasp%C3%A9sie-%C3%8Eles-de-la-Madeleine) region. After Bernard Landry replaced Lucien Bouchard as Premier of Quebec, Arseneau was named in 2001 the minister of agriculture, fisheries and food. Arseneau was re-elected in [2003](/source/2003_Quebec_general_election) and [2007](/source/2007_Quebec_general_election). He was the PQ's critic in agriculture, fisheries and food.
