# Max Pfeffer

**Max Pfeffer** (7 June 1883 – 31 December 1955) was a general in the [Wehrmacht](/source/Wehrmacht) of [Nazi Germany](/source/Nazi_Germany) during [World War II](/source/World_War_II) who commanded the IV Army Corps. He was a recipient of the [Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross](/source/Knight's_Cross_of_the_Iron_Cross).

Pfeffer surrendered to the Soviet forces at the conclusion of the [Battle of Stalingrad](/source/Battle_of_Stalingrad) in 1943. Convicted as a [war criminal](/source/War_criminal) in the Soviet Union, he died in captivity in 1955.
