# Max Lambert

**Max Lambert** (born 1955) is an Australian composer and musical director.[1]

## Early life

Born in 1955 in Sydney, he studied at the [Sydney Conservatorium of Music](/source/Sydney_Conservatorium_of_Music).[2]

## Career

### Stage

Lambert has worked for [Sydney Theatre Company](/source/Sydney_Theatre_Company), [Melbourne Theatre Company](/source/Melbourne_Theatre_Company), [Queensland Theatre](/source/Queensland_Theatre), [Griffin Theatre Company](/source/Griffin_Theatre_Company), [Bell Shakespeare](/source/Bell_Shakespeare), [Sydney Dance Company](/source/Sydney_Dance_Company) and [The Australian Ballet](/source/The_Australian_Ballet).[3]

He was the Musical Director for the original production of *[The Boy from Oz](/source/The_Boy_from_Oz)*, for which he received a [Helpmann Award](/source/Helpmann_Awards) for Best Musical Direction in 2001.[4] He was Musical Supervisor on *[Hairspray](/source/Hairspray_(musical))*, *[Fame](/source/Fame_(musical))*, *King Kong Live* and *[Strictly Ballroom – the Musical](/source/Strictly_Ballroom_(musical))*.

Lambert composed the stage musicals *[Berlin](/source/The_Berlin_Tapes_(album))* (1995) together with [Iva Davies](/source/Iva_Davies) for the [Sydney Dance Company](/source/Sydney_Dance_Company), *[Miracle City](/source/Miracle_City)* (2014) for [Sydney Theatre Company](/source/Sydney_Theatre_Company), and *[Darlinghurst Nights](/source/Darlinghurst_Nights)* (2018). He has also composed music for *Ladies Day*, *Letters to Lindy*, *The Literati*, *[Diving for Pearls](/source/Diving_for_Pearls_(play))* and *[Hot Shoe Shuffle](/source/Hot_Shoe_Shuffle)* (the latter of which, he co-wrote).[5]

Lambert was the Musical Director for the [Opening](/source/2000_Summer_Olympics_opening_ceremony) and [Closing](/source/2000_Summer_Olympics_closing_ceremony) Ceremonies of the [Sydney 2000 Olympic Games](/source/2000_Summer_Olympics), the [2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester](/source/2002_Commonwealth_Games) and the [2006 Asian Games](/source/2006_Asian_Games). He was also the Music Supervisor for [Expo Dubai UAE 2020](/source/Expo_2020).[7]
