**Max Aruj** (born August 7, 1989) is an American composer known for his work in film, television, and video games.[1][2]

## Early life

Aruj was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.[1][3] He began playing classical and jazz piano at age six and started composing music in high school, including scoring a student film titled *Black Martini*.[4] He earned a Bachelor of Music in composition from the [USC Thornton School of Music](/source/USC_Thornton_School_of_Music) between 2007 and 2012, along with a minor in business administration from USC Marshall School of Business.[5]

## Career

Aruj began his professional career with an internship at [Hans Zimmer](/source/Hans_Zimmer)'s Remote Control Productions during his studies at USC, where he later worked extensively with composers [Lorne Balfe](/source/Lorne_Balfe) and [Rupert Gregson-Williams](/source/Rupert_Gregson-Williams).[4][3] His early contributions included additional music and arrangements for projects such as *[Top Gun: Maverick](/source/Top_Gun%3A_Maverick)* (2022), *[Mission: Impossible – Fallout](/source/Mission%3A_Impossible_%E2%80%93_Fallout)* (2018), *[Black Widow](/source/Black_Widow_(2021_film))* (2021), *[The Crown](/source/The_Crown_(TV_series))*, and *[His Dark Materials](/source/His_Dark_Materials_(TV_series))*.[1][3]

As a lead composer, Aruj scored the horror film *[Crawl](/source/Crawl_(2019_film))* (2019), the crime drama *[Lansky](/source/Lansky_(2021_film))* (2021), and action thriller *[The Ice Road](/source/The_Ice_Road)* (2021) starring [Liam Neeson](/source/Liam_Neeson).[1][6] He composed for the video game expansion *[Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids](/source/Assassin's_Creed_Valhalla)* (2021) and the Netflix animated series *[Mech Cadets](/source/Mech_Cadets)* (2023).[1][2]
