**Matty English** (born 14 November 1997) is an English professional [rugby league](/source/Rugby_league) footballer who plays as a [prop](/source/Rugby_league_positions#prop_forward) forward for the [Huddersfield Giants](/source/Huddersfield_Giants) in the [Super League](/source/Super_League) and the [England Knights](/source/England_Knights) at international level.

He has spent time on loan from [Huddersfield](/source/Huddersfield_Giants) at the [Dewsbury Rams](/source/Dewsbury_Rams) in the [Championship](/source/RFL_Championship) and at the [Castleford Tigers](/source/Castleford_Tigers) in the [Super League](/source/Super_League).

## Playing career

### Huddersfield Giants

English is a product of the [Huddersfield Giants](/source/Huddersfield_Giants)' academy system and is nicknamed 'the Polar Bear'.[3][4]

On 23 April 2017, he made his first team debut for Huddersfield against the [Swinton Lions](/source/Swinton_Lions) in the [Challenge Cup](/source/Challenge_Cup).[5]

On 28 May 2022, English played for Huddersfield in their [2022 Challenge Cup final](/source/2022_Challenge_Cup_final) loss against the [Wigan Warriors](/source/Wigan_Warriors).[6]

English played 19 games for Huddersfield in the [2023 Super League season](/source/2023_Super_League_season) as the club finished ninth on the table and missed the playoffs.[7] English played 14 matches for Huddersfield in the 2024 Super League season which saw the club finish 9th on the table.[8] English played 18 matches for Huddersfield in the 2025 Super League season as the club finished 10th on the table.[9]

#### Castleford Tigers (loan)

On 12 June 2024, it was announced that English would sign for the [Castleford Tigers](/source/Castleford_Tigers) in the [Super League](/source/Super_League) on loan.[10] He joined on an initial two-week deal, rolling week to week thereafter.[11] He made four appearances for the Tigers, with head coach [Craig Lingard](/source/Craig_Lingard) expressing the club's desire to keep him as long as possible.[12][13] Huddersfield announced his recall on 15 July.[14]

## International career

He represented England academy on tour to Australia[4]

In 2019 Matty was called into the [England Knights](/source/England_Knights) squad along with 3 other Giants players.[15]

In 2019 he was selected for the [England Knights](/source/England_Knights) against [Jamaica](/source/Jamaica_national_rugby_league_team) at [Headingley Rugby Stadium](/source/Headingley_Rugby_Stadium).[16]
