The **Mattock River** is a river in [Ireland](/source/Ireland).[1] It is a tributary of the [River Boyne](/source/River_Boyne).

Its source is near [Collon](/source/Collon) ([53°46′30″N 6°29′42″W / 53.775°N 6.495°W / 53.775; -6.495](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Mattock_River&params=53.775_N_6.495_W_)), from where it flows through County Louth towards the southeast until a place west of [Drummond Tower](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Drummond_Tower&action=edit&redlink=1) in [Coolfore](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Coolfore&action=edit&redlink=1) where it begins to form the boundary between Counties [Meath](/source/County_Meath) and [Louth](/source/County_Louth).[2] Here it turns towards the southwest until [Monknewtown](/source/Monknewtown) where it takes a southeastern direction again before turning roughly east at [Dowth](/source/Dowth%2C_County_Meath). It joins the River Boyne at [Oldbridge](/source/Oldbridge) in the parish of [Drogheda](/source/Drogheda) ([53°43′15″N 6°25′39″W / 53.7207°N 6.4276°W / 53.7207; -6.4276](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Mattock_River&params=53.7207_N_6.4276_W_)). The estimated terrain elevation above sea level is 10 metres.[1]
