# Matthew Keech

**Matthew Keech** (born 21 October 1970) is an English former [cricketer](/source/Cricket) and cricket coach.

Keech was born at [Hampstead](/source/Hampstead) in October 1979. He played for [England Young Cricketers](/source/England_Under-19_cricket_team) in both Youth [Test](/source/Test_cricket) and [One Day International](/source/One_Day_International) matches in 1989 and 1990.[1][2] Keech made his debut in [first-class cricket](/source/First-class_cricket) for [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex_County_Cricket_Club) against [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University_Cricket_Club) at [Fenner's](/source/Fenner's) in 1991, and went onto make fourteen appearances in [that seasons County Championship](/source/1991_County_Championship).[3] In that same season, he also made his debut in [List A one-day cricket](/source/List_A_cricket) against [Surrey](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club) in the [Refuge Assurance League](/source/1991_Refuge_Assurance_League), with him making fourteen one-day appearances in 1991.[4] He did not appear for Middlesex in 1992, but did return to the side for the 1993 season; during this, he made five first-class and fifteen one-day appearances.[3][4] Keech left Middlesex at the end of that season, with [Mark Ramprakash](/source/Mark_Ramprakash) putting this down to a feeling that he would do better playing elsewhere.[5]

For the 1994 season, Keech joined [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire_County_Cricket_Club), making five appearances in the [County Championship](/source/1994_County_Championship) and twelve in one-day cricket during his debut season.[3][4]

Keech played in 49 first-class matches and 74 one-day matches for the county. At the end of the 1999 season, Keech was released by Hampshire.[6] In 2001, he made a single one-day appearance for [Dorset](/source/Dorset_County_Cricket_Club) against [Bedfordshire](/source/Bedfordshire_County_Cricket_Club) at [Bournemouth](/source/Dean_Park_Cricket_Ground) in the 2nd round of the [Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy](/source/2001_Cheltenham_%26_Gloucester_Trophy);[7] he scored 73 runs in the match in a losing cause.[6] Keech subsequently coached Dorset.[8]
