**Matthew Galkin** is an American director and producer.

## Early life and education

Matthew Galkin was born in [Rhode Island](/source/Rhode_Island) and grew up in [Shaker Heights](/source/Shaker_Heights,_Ohio), [Ohio](/source/Ohio).[1]

## Career

Over the course of his career, Galkin has made dozens of projects, including numerous films for [HBO](/source/HBO).

He started his directing career with *[loudQUIETloud](/source/Loudquietloud)*, a film about legendary rock band the [Pixies](/source/Pixies_(band)).

He also directed *Kevorkian*, the only all-access biographical film ever made about famed assisted suicide doctor [Jack Kevorkian](/source/Jack_Kevorkian)[citation needed], and *[I Am an Animal](/source/I_Am_an_Animal): The Story of [Ingrid Newkirk](/source/Ingrid_Newkirk) and [PETA](/source/People_for_the_Ethical_Treatment_of_Animals)*, about the founder of the infamous animal rights organization.

In 2023, his work *[Murder in Big Horn](/source/Murder_in_Big_Horn)* premiered at the [2023 Sundance Film Festival](/source/2023_Sundance_Film_Festival) and was nominated for a 2024 [Independent Spirit Award](/source/Independent_Spirit_Awards). He also created Showtime’s first-ever true crime series *Murder in the Bayou*.

Prior to starting the production company Fairhaven in 2018, Galkin was partners with *[Super Size Me](/source/Super_Size_Me)* filmmaker [Morgan Spurlock](/source/Morgan_Spurlock) at NY-based company Warrior Poets, where his work included the IDA Award-winning CNN series *[Inside Man](/source/Morgan_Spurlock_Inside_Man)*; *[Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!](/source/Super_Size_Me_2:_Holy_Chicken!)*, which premiered at the 2017 Toronto Film Festival; and the film *[One Direction: This is Us](/source/One_Direction:_This_Is_Us)* for [Sony Pictures](/source/Sony_Pictures_Motion_Picture_Group), one of the highest grossing concert films of all time.[citation needed]
