**Matthew Cottle** (born 16 February 1967) is an English film, stage, radio and television actor.

## Early life

Cottle was born in [Henley-on-Thames](/source/Henley-on-Thames), [Oxfordshire](/source/Oxfordshire),[1] and studied drama at the [Royal Academy of Dramatic Art](/source/Royal_Academy_of_Dramatic_Art), graduating in 1990 with an Acting (RADA Diploma).[2]

## Film

Cottle appeared in [Richard Attenborough](/source/Richard_Attenborough)'s 1992 *[Chaplin](/source/Chaplin_(film))* (as [Stan Laurel](/source/Stan_Laurel)),[3] and in David Jones' 1999 adaptation of *[A Christmas Carol](/source/A_Christmas_Carol_(1999_film))*.[3] Cottle also appeared in *[The Personal History of David Copperfield](/source/The_Personal_History_of_David_Copperfield)* in 2019.[1]
