# Matt Storey

**Matt Storey** is a British [Labour Party](/source/Labour_Party_(UK)) politician who has served as the [Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner](/source/Cleveland_Police_and_Crime_Commissioner) since [2024](/source/2024_England_and_Wales_police_and_crime_commissioner_elections).[1] He defeated [Steve Turner](/source/Steve_Turner_(police_commissioner)) of the [Conservative Party](/source/Conservative_Party_(UK)), the incumbent since [2021](/source/2021_England_and_Wales_police_and_crime_commissioner_elections).[1]

Storey pledged to give every community a named police officer as part of a plan to bring back community policing, fund domestic abuse support workers, set up a retail crime strategy, get rough sleepers off the streets and into permanent housing alongside providing drug treatment and mental health support, and to always act with integrity in office.[2]

He worked for the [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament) for [Middlesbrough](/source/Middlesbrough_(UK_Parliament_constituency)), [Andy McDonald](/source/Andy_McDonald_(politician)), from 2012 to 2024 and served as a [councillor](/source/Councillor) on [Middlesbrough Council](/source/Middlesbrough_Council) representing Central [ward](/source/Ward_(electoral_subdivision)) between 2016 and 2024.[3]
